Sneaker Comeback: Adidas Has a ‘Casual Sportswear’ Advantage over Nike

DJs love sneakers, and with access to more sneaker reviews, blogs and entire channels, it’s easy to stay on top of the latest updates. Recently there has been a lot of discussion around which brand is the hottest on the market – Nike or Adidas? While Nike still has a consistent lead in the U.S. market, Adidas seems to be making a notable comeback.

According to Yahoo Finance, Nike’s share of the U.S. athletic footwear market was 34.7% last month, down from 35.9% in May 2016. Adidas almost doubled its share from 6.3% in May 2016 to 11.3% in May 2017. In April’s market share numbers, Adidas came in at No. 2, topping the Jordan Brand for the first time in years.

There’s no denying that the three stripes revival is alive and well. This could be partly because of the popularity of the ‘casual sportswear’ trends, both with apparel and sneakers. In May, Adidas was ranked as the top ‘casual athletic’ footwear brand, followed by Skechers, Converse, Sperry and Keds.

The casual sportswear trend doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon either, with sporty street style even showing up in collections from high-end brands like Gucci. Sprinkle in some celebrity endorsement, and products will be flying off the shelves. Many would argue that the Kanye West-designed Yeezys have helped Adidas make the impressive gains in the market, but their super-comfy Ultra Boosts and NMDs are also selling like hotcakes.

Nike has the resources to stay on top, but Adidas seems to be taking advantage of the current fashion trends and lifestyle-focused fashion.

So who do you think will come out on top? We want to hear which brand is your favorite!
