The current age of social networks and the internet available all over the world creates a basically false view of the matter and supports the opinions of envious people who do not fight for their goals, but only know how to make negative comments. In the eyes of many people who mock artists who may not be the best in terms of skills, but on the contrary are the best as a “complete package” within their careers. It is important to remember that the market is not looking for the ”best”, but the most suitable! It’s not about being able to use DJ technique to the best of my ability if I’m not able to put on a quality show and vice versa. Those who always offend the most, on the other hand, those who are almost impossible to watch on stage due to the fact that in many cases it is absolutely boring.
1) Extrovert = As we already mentioned in the beginning of the article, you really don’t need to be an extreme “showman”, but an introvert who has the best skills, but no communication towards the audience = absolute boredom. So when someone claims that some artists are like clowns just because they do a show and don’t have the same skills as someone who has 100% skills but instead does a boring show, it’s laughable. It is important to find a compromise and have a little bit of everything. Therefore, advice for all those who do not like either those who show a lot or, on the contrary, little. Always remember that just because someone does something a little differently doesn’t mean they don’t have talent.
2) Skills = Yes, technical skills are the cornerstone of success, there is no doubt about that. But as we said in the introduction, it’s not about being the best, it’s about being able to sell your skills. Everyone doesn’t have to be able to do everything, and where they can’t do something, for example, they will add in something else. But to say about someone that he is the best just because he mixes well, even if his show is boring, is again laughable. Of course, we don’t recognize the SYNC button, but for example, the fact that someone has clean transitions and others less so during the set is not the decisive thing that will make the overall impression of the whole show.
Basically, the advice for new DJs starting out is to focus on always being original in all points of your personality, such as your skills, your presentation towards the audience and bringing all these things together. A large number of artists disagree, but it is important for beginners to build their visual image on social networks as well. Yes, today’s time is also about this and it’s so good that everyone can present their product, by that we mean present ourselves.
3) Social Media – As we said in the previous sentence. Yes, this is also an integral part of today’s times. However, just as important as making a quality mix, the presentation on social networks must be completely original. The only problem nowadays and we understand the criticism is that everyone copies content from each other and is unable to create their own content, as well as many artists are all wearing black instead of everyone creating quality and original clothing for their shows. A lot of you will not agree with this that we are adding point number 3 here too, but just to be clear, one example = If you sell cars these days and don’t use advertising, you won’t sell much. This is simply a fact of today and it is time to accept these new things. Instagram etc. is not an add-on, but together with music one of the solutions for your projects.
4) Own production = One of the important parts, where criticism often includes who uses what and who creates what and how. It is important to remember that music is supposed to connect people and not primarily just criticize. What I don’t like and what someone else doesn’t like is a matter of opinion and it’s not wrong if someone has a different opinion on a matter. But today’s trend is to point out what was copied, what was created by someone else’s work. To be honest, everyone who creates knows very well that they have a lot of things already saved and then use them in other projects, that’s a fact. And in today’s oversaturated times, it can sometimes seem that something resembles something else, but that does not mean that it is copied. So overall advice in conclusion. Always dedicate yourself to music with joy and for the love of music and never let anything or anyone stop you, because it is you who can bring something new to the market!
